“On Any Sunday —The Next Chapter” Movie Poster
April 2014
In early 2014, Red Bull Media House commissioned four paintings from Tom for the official movie poster. Capturing the heart and soul of some of the different riding styles seen in the movie was part of the challenge. Red Bull was pleased when the poster scored an exclusive premiere on Fandango, one of the two major high‑visibility online advance movie ticket sales sites. Scoring a reveal on Fandango is something that is common with larger features, but is definitely a nice honor for a documentary or independent film as it’s extremely competitive due to the sheer volume.
Fritz On The Cover Of Hot Rod Magazine
July 2014
The July 2014 Hot Rod magazine’s subscriber’s issue features Tom’s artwork in which the cartoon character “Stroker McGurk” paints a portrait of his creator, Tom Medley. The original painting was created in November 2010 and is in the private collection of the Medley family. Of note: this marks one of the very few times artwork has appeared on the cover of Hot Rod in its 66 year history, sharing this distinction with the first cover illustrated by Frank Hubbard in May of 1951, and the December 1951 cover—the only cover by Tom Medley and featuring Stroker McGurk.
Poster Artist for Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance
March 2014
In late 2013, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance committee asked Fritz to create the commemorative poster art for the event. His engaging portrait of Jochen Mass surrounded by the Marlboro McLaren, the Porsche 935, and the Sauber Mercedes C9 was so well received, the posters were sold out before the event on Sunday. At the dinner/gala the evening before the event, his original artwork sold at auction for a record amount!

Fritz Honors David Mann
December 2012
Tom’s recent portrait of artist David Mann struck a deeper chord when Quick Throttle magazine chose it for the cover of their December issue. The original oil was unveiled at the David Mann Chopperfest in Ventura California. “The portrait Tom created not only captures the essence of David Mann,” remarked David’s wife, Jacquie Mann, “it also pays tribute to the artist himself.” Tom added, “My aim was to reach the truest part of a man – an artist – who followed his convictions and defined the spirit of his life’s experience using the materials of his passion. Through his imagination and brushwork, David Mann raised a clubhouse where a culture may come and celebrate itself.”

Bob Drake Reproductions Commission
May 2012
When Bob Drake commissioned Tom to create a front and back cover for his “New Additions” catalog, he stipulated that he wasn’t looking for a hot rod, but rather the kind of car a typical family would own, like a ’37 Ford. “No. You Gotta Take The Dirt Road” is Tom’s depiction of a slantback in the midwest, circa the late 30’s. Using his neighbors as models, Fritz created this narrative, squeezing a great deal of life in a simple image. Prints are available
Tom’s Image Centerpiece of AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame 2011 Induction Ceremony
November 18, 2011
“So Woefully Underpaid”, Tom’s painting depicting an iconic moment in AMA Grand National lore was the focus of attention at the recent Induction Ceremony held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The depiction is of Kenny Roberts broad sliding the 125 horsepower Yamaha TZ750 through the final turn (while tagging hay bales) on his way to passing Jay Springsteen and Corky Keener to win the Indy Mile in Indianapolis in 1975. The image was vigorously well-received by the audience, and presented to Kenny Roberts at his induction.

Fritz awarded his sixth Best in Show at Pebble Beach
August 2011
Fritz is among several of the Automotive Fine Art Society’s artists to be awarded the prestigious Peter Helck Award at the AFAS Premiere Exhibition at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. In fact, he is now the only artist to have won the award for an unprecedented sixth time, and the only artist to win the award back-to-back twice! Tom’s first Helck Award came in 1997 for “What Is Good For Young Bulls”, the second in 1998 for “Evening Riders” (which also marked the first time an artist won the award two years in a row), the third in 2003 for “Taking Artistic License”, the fourth in 2007 for “A Little Ahead of Schedule”, in 2010 for his oil-on-canvas entitled “Stone Hooked”, and now for his painting “Out Quicker Than A Hiccup”. The never-before exhibited painting was introduced at the show. “My painting of a dirty, crusty Ford Model T, buried up to it’s axles in mud, with all the sloppin’ and muckin’ and roost flying, the sound of snortin’ and cussin’ and spittin’, pounding hooves and rattling trace chains on the whipple trees and double tree stood out in obvious contrast to the quiet exotica parked outside around the tent. I’m especially proud that the movement and emotion in my work was so palpable.”

Tribute Painting for Tom Medley
October 2010
Fritz recently created a tribute painting for the reknown photographer, artist, cartoonist (creator of the ingenious character Stroker McGurk), writer, and former publisher of Rod & Custom, Tom Medley. His depiction of a portrait of Tom being brushed by Stroker was presented artist-to-artist at the recent ‘Shindig’ at the Wally Parks NHRA Museum in Pomona. There was hardly a dry eye in the house. The image of the artwork can be seen on the cover of the January 2011 issue of Rod & Custom.
Fritz garners his fifth Best of Show at Pebble Beach
August 2010
Tom is among several of the Automotive Fine Art Society’s artists to be awarded the prestigious Peter Helck Award at the AFAS Premiere Exhibition at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. In fact, he is now the only artist to have won the award for an unprecedented fifth time! Tom’s first Helck Award came in 1997 for “What Is Good For Young Bulls”, the second in 1998 for “Evening Riders” (which also marked the first time an artist won the award two years in a row), the third in 2003 for “Taking Artistic License”, the fourth in 2007 for “A Little Ahead of Schedule”, and the fifth in 2010 for his oil-on-canvas entitled “Stone Hooked.” The painting was introduced at the show. As Fritz relates, “I wanted to create a painting that showed more about who we are than about the vehicle we sit in. I tried to portray the intensity and passion I see reflected in hot rodders.”
Tom Creates Iconic Imagery for Deuce of Spades Film
April 2010
Long a favorite of Producer/Director Faith Granger, Fritz was enlisted to bring into play his distinctive style and create two powerful pre-release posters evoking the gritty passion in her soon-to-be-released movie, “Deuce of Spades”. “Johnny Callaway” and “Last Race” are the first two in a much-anticipated series of images. As these are the earliest signature images of the film, these works are now part of the film’s iconography and history – just as important in some respects as the film itself. For fans who appreciate what poster art means, a limited quantity of posters signed by Tom, Faith, and actor Timothy Luke are available. See the “Posters” page on Tom’s website for more information.

Looking Into Tom’s Past
Autumn 2008
Fritz was asked to pen an article about himself for the first issue of Benchrace Speed E-zine. So one evening, he dropped his brush and banged out an episode that happened to him in the eighth grade, in a boring social experiment we’ll call “Drafting class”. Find out why folks hand him tubes of “Flicks” candy when he appears at shows. Click on over to: Story
